Wife of human rights activists Valyantsin Stefanovich called to KGB

A KGB officer phoned to Alina Stefanovich, wife of human rights activist Valyantsin Stefanovich, and invited her “for a conversation”.

“My home telephone rang. A man didn’t introduced himself. He said he was from the KGB and invited for a conversation. And don’t know about a ground of the invitation. He might have said something, but I stopped our conversation, said I wouldn’t go anywhere and hang up. He phoned again and said he would send me summons. It hasn’t been the first call, the first one was in late summer,” Alina Stefanovich said.

The woman didn’t know what caused the calling. According to her, the KGB might be interested in her because of her husband’s activity. Alina noticed a tendency in this: on November 14, Anastasiya Chernik-Rymasheuskaya, wife of co-chairman of the organising committee for creation the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party Vital Rymasheuski, was called to the KGB.

According to Anastasiya, KGB officers, who phoned, didn’t say why she must go for a conversation. After she refused to go, an officer offered he could visit her at her place but his offer was denied. The woman connected her calling with her husband’s activity.

The KGB is probably tries to find additional information or damaging information about famous public figures and politicians, Viasna human rights center reports.
