- 17.12.2008, 9:12
Yesterday for about half an hour policemen were not allowing anybody to come to the square where the rally was planned.
As Radio Svaboda was told by an activist of Young Belarus movement Ales Krutkin, there were 10 policemen there. About the same number of participants wanted to light candles and form a live chain.
Some of the activists were asked by policemen to show their bags and rucksacks. But they didn’t confiscate portraits of Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Zmitser Zavadski.
The young activists were told by policemen that the rally is banned, as it hadn’t been authorities by the authorities. Ordinary passers-by were not allowed to come to the square near Skaryna monument for half an hour. Finally the young people were to disband, as policemen said they would allow the protest in no case.
