Zeltser denied right for medical checkup by independent doctor

Belarusian authorities denied Emanuel Zeltser a right for repeat checkup by independent doctor.

It is written by BelaPAN with a reference to the press-service of the US Embassy in Minsk.

The US diplomatic mission seeks a possibility of another checkup of the US citizen and appropriate medical care for him.

E. Zeltser stays in colony No. 15 in Mahilyou.

The US Embassy has also informed that on November 25 on the initiative of the American side a phone talk was held between the US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried and Foreign Minister of Belarus Syarhei Martynau. D. Fried called upon Belarusian authorities to release E. Zeltser on humanitarian grounds.

Meanwhile, the lawyer of Zmitser Harachka in his talk with BelaPAN journalist underlined that he is still trying to receive a copy of the interlocutory judgement on Zeltser by the Supreme Court’s judicial division for criminal cases. To receive it is “ a legal right of clients”.

Vladlena Funk, E. Zeltser’s secretary, was transferred to the corrective colony No. 4 in Homel. She arrived to the colony after a quarantine. As told by the lawyer, according to the general practice, the administration of the colony independently collects documents necessary for studying the issue about her early release after half of imprisonment term expired.

Emanuel Zeltser and his secretary, Russian citizen Vladlena Funk were detained at the National Airport Minsk on March 12. On August 11, for attempted industrial espionage and the use of fake documents Emanuel Zeltser was sentenced to 3years and Funk for one year of imprisonment. They both deny their guilt. The Supreme Court of Belarus upheld this judgement on October 31. All trials in this case were held behind the closed doors.

The defence does not plan to address the president for pardon, as the accused do not plead guilty.
