“Improper” veterans of Afghan war threatened

Human rights activist Aleh Vouchak is going to appeal to prosecutor’s office and ask to examine his situation. He receives threats of physical acts against him on his e-mail.

The unknown people promise to put threats into action if A. Vouchak, a veteran of Afghan war, doesn’t refuse to collect votes of Afghan war veterans, disagree with the cancel of privileges. Vouchak said to “Belorusski Partizan”:

– About 400 votes have been collected and sent to the Ministry of Defence, the KGB, the Council of Ministries, the Constitutional Court. But other activists also collect votes. According to the information we have, as many as 2 500 such votes have been collected.

By the way, on 15 February, the day when Soviet troops were withdrawn form Afghanistan, Aleh Vouchak and his partners were going to collect votes at the special ceremony on the Isle of Tears in the Minsk center. It was arranged that all people, who want to give their votes against cancel of privileges, should come to Gardez stone on the Isle. But then it was found out there was no such stone. About 30 stalwart young people in civvies blocked A. Vouchak’s group and hindered their work.
