Poland demands to release political prisoners in Belarus (Photo)

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and leader of the “For Freedom” movement Alyaksandr Milinkevich discussed problems of the civil society at the meeting in Warsaw on 17 March.

As the Prime Minister’s office informs, Donald Tusk and Alyaksandr Milinkevich discussed perspectives for Belarus’ joining the European Neighbourhood Policy. The parties also touched the question of issuing “Polish cards.”

The issue of release of political prisoners was also discussed. “The position of the Polish government remains the same. No negotiations with the Belarusian authorities are possible if even one political prisoner exists,” the leader of the “For Freedom” movement said after the meeting.

Milinkevich’s press service said recently the expanding programmes on support of civil society in Belarus, question of reducing Schengen visa fees and simplifying of visa procedure, opportunities of cooperation between the two countries in small and medium business, cross-border contact were to be discussed at the meeting.
