The annual concert «Solidarity with Belarus»

The annual concert "Solidarity with Belarus" will take place in Warsaw on 30th of March. The Belarus bands and artistes as well as the musicians from Poland will participate in the concert, playing the new arrangements of well known compositions in both Polish and Belorussian languages.

This year, the concert will be organized under the banner of : “The native language of Belorussian – it is Belorussian”. The Organizers would like to draw attention to the problem of neglecting the Belorussian language: closing down Belorussian newspapers, schools, omnipresence of the Russian language on the streets as well as in the public institutions. That is why, on 30th of March, Warsaw will speak Belorussian!

The concert will be broadcast live to Belarus by mean of the independent TV Belsat, The European Radio for Belarus, and the radio “Racja”.

We would like to pass information on the concert to Byelorussians and also to inform them that we are aware of the situation in their country – organizers declare.

This is a third concert “Solidarity with Belarus”. In 2006, the concert was a gesture of solidarity towards Belorussian opposition before the presidential election. In 2007, Poles demonstrated solidarity with Byelorussians on 25th of March – the Belorussian Day of Independency. Every year, the event gathers a few thousand of people, who have a vivid interest in the situation of Belarus.

The Free Belarus initiative, an originator of the concert, it is the association of young people, who are interested in the democratic changes in Europe.

The group was established spontaneously, during the Orange Revolution in Ukraine, organizing pickets and manifestations to support the president Victor Jushchenko. Subsequently, they participated in the Polish election observation mission to Ukraine for the Charcov region during the II part of the presidential election. From the end of 2005, the main activity of the initiative is concentrated on supporting the Belorussian opposition. Apart from the annual concerts, the association organizes the other grass-roots activities to sustain the environment of Belorussian opposition.
