The 97th Session of the International Labour Conference, opens in Geneva. At the session the ILO Norms and Standards Committee Committee the problem of Belarus is to be considered.

As said by the chairman of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BCDTU) Alyaksandr Yarashuk, a heated discussion is expected, as there is no progress in fulfilling the ILO recommendations in Belarus so far, European Radio for Belarus informs.

Alyaksandr Yarashuk has reminded that non-fulfillment of recommendations has been confirmed by the ILO Governing Body held in March. As said by the trade union leader, Belarus can be included into the special paragraph of the ILO, and the consequences for that can be disturbing.

“If recommendations won’t be fulfilled in the future, I do not exclude that representatives of Norms and Standards Committee can raise the issue of applying a procedure stipulated under Paragraph 33. It is an extraordinary procedure. The matter concerns addressing governments of the countries worldwide suggesting suspending relations with the Belarusian government,” Alyaksandr Yarashuk explained.

Earlier, after Belarus was included into the special paragraph of the ILO on June 21, 2007, the European Union crossed out Belarus from the generalized System of trade preferences.
