Tame opposition to seat in “house of representatives”

2

Minsk dwellers don’t expect any significant changes of the “parliamentary elections” to be held on 28 September.

“I personally foresee that the next “house of representatives” won’t be same as the previous one. Mr Alyaksandr (Lukashenka) probably tired of the fact the Belarusian parliament is absolutely dependent on him, that MPs fear to say a word against the Presidential Administration. Naturally, we couldn’t be in Europe with this “house of representatives”. So, I think a small opposition group of 5-7 people will be allowed in the parliament. Of course, there will be no “rabid” oppositionists: Lyabedzka and Vyachorka won’t seat in parliament. However, catholicity may be allowed in certain degree – for example, some relatively loyal politicians like Volha Abramava, who afford careful criticism of the authorities and vote against the mass on some questions, may take seats in the parliament.

When even tame, but yet opposition appears in the “house of representatives”, what obstacles will the West have to recognise the regime of Lukashenka?” Syarhei Matsko from Minsk wrote in his letter to Radio Svaboda.
