Volha Kazulina about meeting with US President

Coordinators of the public commission “Freedom to Kazulin and all political prisoners of Belarus!” Volha Kazulina and Raisa Mikhailouskaya were in the United States on an invitation of the US Department of State from 20 to 27 July.

Volha Kazulina, daughter of a former presidential candidate, told to www.kozylin.com about her visit to the US and a meeting with George Bush.

According to her, the American political establishment is still interested in the situation in Belarus. High-level meetings in the Congress, the Department of State and the United Nations Organisation took place in the course of the visit. As officials from the department of State said, US policy towards Belarus wouldn’t be changed even if democratic candidate Barack Obama won the election.

Raisa Mikhailouskaya, coordinator of the public commission “Freedom to Kazulin and all political prisoners of Belarus!”, read a report on the situation with political prisoners in Belarus to the UN.

Volha and Raisa were invited to Voice of America studio where they told about the oncoming parliamentary election, a blast in Minsk and acute problems of the Belarusian policy. “Only phased sanctions can make Lukashenka solve an issue of political prisoners,” V. Kazulina told in an interview to TV- and radio journalists.

During a meeting between Volha Kazulina and George Bush, the US President expressed his solidarity with her father, was interest in Alyaksandr Kazulin’s health and conditions in the penal colony. G. Bush assured V. Kazulina the United States would continue to struggle for observing human rights by the Belarusian authorities and demand full and unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience. “We stand with Volha Kazulina. Her father, Alyaksandr Kazulin, remains in prison in Belarus for the "crime" of running for President,” the US President said in Washington.
