Council of Europe’s head: Lukashenka fails to understand that citizens have a right to protest against rigging of election results

Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, welcomes release of political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin.

Terry Davis has underlined that there was no necessity “to send Alyaksandr Kazulin to prison basing on fabricated accusations”.

“Lukashenka cannot understand that in any country considered democratic citizens have a right to protest against rigged election results,” the head of the Council of Europe stated.

Kazulin’s release was welcomed also by Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Belarus Andrea Rigoni. As informed by the PACE press-service, in his statement Rigoni underlined that it is an important evidence of constructive position of the government that is looking into the future.
