Viktar Ivashkevich and Vintsuk Vyachorka weren’t registered as MP candidates

Deputy chairs of the Belarusian Popular Front Viktar Ivashkevich and Vintsuk Vyachorka weren’t registered as MP candidates.

According to Viktar Ivashkevich, he didn’t pass the registration only because date in 71th signature was written not by a signatory but by members of the initiative group. Viktar Ivashkevich told in an interview to the Charter’97 press center it wasn’t true: every signatory wrote a date near his or her signatory.

Viktar Ivashkevich thinks the real ground of his non-registration is that the authorities fear the politicians who are able to hold an active election campaign “in spite of bans of the authorises” will run in the election.

“For the moment, I, Vintsuk Vyachorka and Syarhei Salash, all BPF members, weren’t registered. I think the prominent BPF members is connected with the fact that the authorities feel danger that the BPF party can declare boycott of the “election” and won’t help the authorities to organise election farce by its running in the campaign,” Viktar Ivashkevich said in the interview to the Charter’97 press center.

The politician reminded that 30 August, BPF Soim (council) is to take a decision on whether the party would or wouldn’t run in the oncoming “election”.

“We weren’t registered because we would use the state mass media to tell the electorate about the farce, organised by the authorities before the eyes of western observers. The authorities decided not to register the candidates who are able to hold an active election campaign revealing all violations in spite of bans of the authorises,. I think our denial of registration will influence the decision of the BF Soim on 30 August.

Deputy head of the BPF party Vintsuk Vyachorka noted in an interview to the Charter’97 press center that he thought from the very beginning the “election” wouldn’t be free. According to him, the situation with non-including of BPF members into district election commissions and a number of registered and non-registered BPF activists will in influence the decision of the BPF Soim.

It should be reminded that for the moment, BPF activists Syarhei Salash, Yury KAretnikau and Albert Yaumenau as well as the party heads, failed to pass the registration.
