An activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Marta Majseenka is persecuted for dissemination of informational materials calling upon boycott of the upcoming “parliamentary elections”.
As the Charter’97 press-centre has informed already, Marta Majseenka was detained on August 18 together with the activist of the “European Belarus” Paval Luksha for distribution of “Vybar” newspaper, informing about boycott of the “parliamentary elections”. An article “Your voice could be heard on the square” with a call to gather on September 28 at Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk at 8 p.m. in case the election results would be rigged, was also published in the newspaper.
A report on charges relating article 23.34 of the Administrative Code (appeals for participation in an unsanctioned rally) was drawn up against the detained. On August 28 Pavel Luksha was sentenced to 10 days of arrest by the court of Leninski district.
On August 26-28 Marta Majseenka was in a hospital No.10 of Minsk because of her state of health. On August 28, on the day of her release, policemen came to the hospital. The girl managed to leave the hospital earlier. On the same evening policemen visited Marta Majseenka’s apartment. She was not at home, policemen talked to her mother and told that the girl was to “be brought to account for violation of the administrative code”.
As we have informed, Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, stated recently:
“Lukashenka cannot understand that in any country considered democratic citizens have a right to protest against rigged election results”.
