Official Minsk discussing nuclear program with China

A delegation of Chinese nuclear specialists from Kwantung Nuclear Energy Corporation has arrived in Minsk.

As BelaPAN has learnt from spokeswoman of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus Lyudmila Zyankovich, a purpose of the visit of the Chinese delegation arrived on September 3 is discussion of bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy sphere with the Belarusian colleagues. The delegation is headed by corporation’s vice president Zheng Dongshan.

Meetings of the delegation with first vice premier of Belarus Uladzimir Syamashka and head of the presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Mikhail Myasnikovich are scheduled in the program of the visit. Besides, the representatives of the corporation will have consultations with specialists of the Ministry of Energy, Directorate for nuclear power plant construction, Sosny United Institute of Energy Nuclear Researches and BelNIPIEnergoprom in the frames of the visit that will last till 10 September. The delegation will also visit one of the possible sites for the nuclear plant construction.

The Kwantung Nuclear Energy Corporation suggested the Ministry of Energy of Belarus to cooperate in the sphere of nuclear energy in early August. As deputy minister of energy Mikhail Mikhadyuk said at a press conference on August 11, different forms of cooperation are possible – from nuclear plant equipment supplies to rendering services. Besides, Mikhadzyuk noted, the Chinese side will probably finance the construction of the Belarusian nuclear plant.
