One of leaders of Union of Poles in Belarus detained in Hrodna

Mechyslau Yaskevich, deputy head of the Union of Poles in Belarus, was detained by militia and guarded to the Kastrychnitski district militia department on September 4.

As Mechyslau Yaskevich told to Radio Svaboda on phone, after his detention in a car, in Kabyaka Street, he was guarded to the Kastrychnitski district militia department of Hrodna.

Militiamen became interested in Polish-language editions Magazyn Polski na uchodzstwie and Glos znad Niemna na uchodzstwie, 51 item in total. Magazines and newspapers were seized, and a report of seizure was drawn up. Mechyslau Yaskevich notes: militiamen said they would read the editions to make sure they contained no information against the authorities.

The detained was said militia had an order to search his apartment. However, the activist demanded that to show a warrant. Militiamen guarded him to the Kastrychnitski district prosecutor’s office, but didn’t received a sanction for searching and had to set Mr Yaskevich free.
