In the settlement of Lunno, Masty district, croissants sprinkled with sodium carbonate instead of sugar were sold in the shop. They had been brought to the shop from the town of Masty.
A local dweller who bought them first, told to Radio Svaboda that after she bit a little, she felt it was burning her mouth. However, as a former cook, she guessed there was something wrong with that and gargled her mouth with water.
The woman immediately raised alarm and returned croissants to the shop. Besides, she lodged a complaint to the district authority, and they organized a check. It turned out that by mistake a cleaning woman placed a bag with sodium carbonate instead of a bag with icing sugar to the pastry shop.
As said by the shop assistant in Lunno, there was only a kilogram of croissants in the shop, and after it turned out they were unfit for human consumption, shop assistants called to all clients who had bought them. Clients returned them to the shop and were given money back. However, a few rolls had been bought by people who were passing Lunno.
