Mother and friends of late Yana Palyakova say about permanent persecution of the human rights activist by officers of militia and prosecutor’s office of Salihorsk.
Suicide of Yana Palyakova has touched everyone. What official measures are taken to investigate the circumstances, compelled the human rights activist to such a step.
Head of the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office Henadz Vyartainski says every suicide is checked to define if a person was forced to do it.
“If someone has committed a suicide, we organize a check that will show whether a criminal case should be instigated. It is a compulsory procedure,” he told radio Svaboda.
The prosecutor’s office of Salihorsk, however, refused to give any comments on human rights activist Yana Palyakova’s suicide.
If the check on Palyakova’s suicide was started, investigator should question all people, who have talked to her for the last few days.
Judge Alyaksandr Burautsau, who sentenced Yana Palyakova to 2.5 years of restraint of liberty allegedly for libel against militiamen Puhachou, avoids answering.
“I repeat again: I won’t comment on anything,” Buraursau said.
Former militiaman Viktar Puhachou, according to court “libelled” by Yana Palyakova, who stated he had beaten he in a militia department , refused to comment on the situation of Yana Palyakova’s death on March 9. It is impossible to know if Viktar Puhachou was questioned by a prosecutor: relatives of the former mailman told on telephone Puhachou is out.
At funerals of Yana Palyakova, taken place on March 9 at Dubeika cemetery near Salihorsk, people demanded a careful investigation of the circumstances that caused suicide of the human rights activist. Palyakova’s friend Zinaida Tsimoshyk reminded that Yana complained about night telephone calls with threats.
“At the trial, Yana asked to check the calls from militia, she had been receiving. They could call her for questioning at 2 at night. Every one can be broken in this situation,” the woman said.
Judge Alyaksandr Burautsau didn’t take into account these complaints by Yana Palyakova, Zinaida TSimoshyk told.
Neanila Palyakova, mother of the human rights activist, confirmed her daughter could be called for questioning even at night.
“I remember that the last time Dzyashuk was phoning. It was half past ten. Yana went. Then the telephone rang again. I said he hadn’t returned yet. I asked who was speaking and a person said he was an officer of the prosecutor’s office. They could phone at four again. Yana joked: “Look, they are having fun. They want me to be a clown,” the human rights activist’s mother tells.
According to Neanila Palyakova, a common examination was carried out in the mortuary. But the results of it weren’t presented to Yana Palyakova’s mother. Neanila Palyakova notes that the investigators weren’t interested in material evidences of the suicide. In particular, a leash, on which Yana Palyakova hung herself, is still at home.
Tatsyana Kalinina, representative of the press service of the prosecutor’s office of the Minsk region, told:
“A check on Yana Palyakova’s suicide is being carried out by the prosecutor’s office of Salihorsk under article 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Belarus.”
According to Tatsyana Kalinina, a check can last from 3 to 10 days, and even a month if necessary. Check on Yana palyakova’s suicide hasn’t been finished yet, the officer of the prosecutor’s office of the Minsk region said.
It should be reminded that human right activist from Salihorsk Yana Palyakova was found hung on March 7 in the morning. It is unknown whether she left a suicide note.
