11

The Belarusian Energy Ministry has received a draft contract for building the Belarusian nuclear power plant from the Russian company Atomstroyexport.

It has been informed by BelTA with the reference to the Energy Ministry.

“It is a draft contract with gaps regarding a specific contractor. We need to fill them in, specifying deadlines, the responsibility of the parties, costs and so on. We need to put it through the Finance Ministry, the Economy Ministry, the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry, the National Academy of Sciences and other interested ministries and agencies, which will make their remarks and proposals,” explained the source.

The Nuclear Station Construction Directorate will work on the draft contract.

“Specialists of the Directorate will work on the document, will take into account remarks and then we will dialogue with the Russian side. I think within a month we should meet with the Russian side to discuss it,” said the representative of the Energy Ministry.

Belarus is expected to sign the contract for building the nuclear power plant with Atomstroyexport by the end of 2009.

As we have informed, the first Belarusian nuclear power station is planned to be constructed on Astravets site (Hrodna region). The first power unit of the Belarusian nuclear power station is planned to be put in operation in 2016, the second one – in 2018.
