BCD applied to procuracy over the fact of persecuting 700 party activists

The organizing committee on creation the party Belarusian Christian Democracy will hold the second founding congress at the end of October or at the beginning of November this year.

Alyaksei Shein, a co-head of the organizing committee, told this at a press conference in Minsk on July 28, BelaPAN reports.

The first founding congress of the BCD was held on February 28, but the Ministry of Justice didn’t register the party referring to violations of the procedure. The Ministry also said the party failed to present all necessary documents for registration, in particular those confirming paying the state duty for registration. The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Ministry of Justice on July 22.

The co-heads of the BCD think the denial to registration was politically motivated.

“We have information from governmental agencies that the authorities are not going to register the BCD in any case, “Shein said. “But we will take persistent actions to register the party officially.”

Alyaksei Shein told that 500–700 activists were persecuted during preparation for the founding congress and considering an issue in registration.

“We were persecuted by KGB officers, officers of law enforcement forces and district executive committees. Our activists received threats, were offered to deny their signatures as a party founder,” Shein said.

The BCD founders plan to demand the procuracy to give a legal estimation of the facts of hindering activity of creating a political party.
