New British ambassador arrives in Belarus

Mrs Rosemary Thomas has been appointed new ambassador of the UK to Belarus. She arrives in the country in September 16.

As BelaPAN learnt from the British Embassy, the diplomat plans to start her work on September 17.

Nigel Gould-Davies, who headed the mission since August 2007, left Belarus in early September after his term of office had expired.

Mrs Rosemary Thomas is a career diplomat. An FCO officer since 1991. Worked for ASEM Summit Unit, Russia Section, Eastern Dept, headed the Council of Europe Section, OSCE/COED and the War Crimes Section. Worked as a Reporting and Communications Officer for EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine in Odessa, was First Secretary Counter Narcotics Team in the British Embassy in Afghanistan.
