The visit takes place against the background of debating the Belarus Arms Transfers Accountability Act of 2009 by the US Congress.

The head of Iranian ruler’s administration has arrived in Belarus today with a three-day visit. “a range of bilateral political, economic and trading issues is to be discussed during the visit to Minsk,” Interfax learnt from the Iranian Embassy in Belarus.

The diplomatic mission said Esfandiar Rahim Mashai plans to have meetings in Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s Administration, the Council of Ministers, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

As charter97.org has already reported, the president of Turkmenistan finished his two-day visit to Belarus yesterday. Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed 10 commercial treaties. However, there’s no information about possible arrangements in energy sphere in view of Belarus–Russian conflict over oil export duties. Nevertheless, an inter-governmental agreement on military and technical cooperation was signed.

Besides, a Belarusian “parliamentary” delegation headed by chairman of the “house of representatives” Uladzimir Andreichanka, is paying an official visit to Syria on January 26–29.

It should be reminded in the context of the Belarusian visit of head of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s administration that the US Congress is going to debate the Belarus Arms Transfers Accountability Act of 2009. In accordance with the reports issued, Belarus has been a significant supplier of rockets, mortars, antitank weapons, and mines to Palestinian extremist groups and to state sponsors of terrorism, such as Iran and Syria, as well as Mi-24 helicopters, artillery systems and Russian-origin armored combat vehicles to the Government of Sudan, tanks to the communist regime in North Korea, and military aircraft and aircraft engines to Iran.
