Makei: “Like Iran, Belarus is under certain pressure”

Head of the Belarus President Administration Uladzimir Makei said that Belarusian authorities totally support the political line of Ahmadinejad.

In its external policy Belarus will remain committed to the policy of mutually beneficial all-round cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Head of the Belarus President Administration Uladzimir Makei noted at the meeting with Head of the Presidential Office of Iran Esfandiar Rahim-Mashaei on January 28, BelTA informs.

“The Belarusian administration highly values development of multilateral ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Belarus and Iran hold similar views on all major issues of the international agenda. We develop cooperation within the international organizations. Belarus and Iran have no secret topics for discussion in their relations”.

Uladzimir Makei said that Belarus was following the political situation in Iran in 2009.

“We are interested in stability of the situation in Iran and we sincerely wish the Iranian people peace and prosperity. The visit of Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Barys Batura to Iran proves our strong support to the policy that is pursued by the present Iranian government,” he added.

Head of the Belarus President Administration Uladzimir Makei said that the historical backgrounds of Belarus and Iran are similar to some extent. “Over a long period, Belarus has been and now is under a certain pressure, like Iran. So, we are well aware of the high price for the purely independent foreign policy.”

In his turn Esfandiar Rahim-Mashaei noted the good level of f Belarus-Iran cooperation, but underlined that the two countries do not exploit the existing potential in full.

It should be noted most countries of the West condemn the regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for Holocaust denial, threats to Israel and brutal crackdown on opposition in Iran.
