Lukashenka-Grybauskaitė: “We are in unfavorable conditions”

The Belarusian dictator started the meeting with Lithuanian president Dalia Grybauskaitė with complaints.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka is interested by Dalia Grybauskaitė’s opinion on the Eastern Partnership initiative. He stated that on October 20 before the meeting with the President of Lithuania, BelaPAN informs.

“I would like to listen to your opinion, whether it would be developed or will stay in the frozen state. You are a EU member, and this influences our today’s meeting. You should suggest us some guidelines for action,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to Lukashenka, Belarus and Lithuania have good prospects for cooperation, especially in the sphere of energetic.

“We live in the conditions which are not favorable for us, and we need to think about how to ensure our independence. We can solve many issues by finding agreement with the Baltic states,” Lukashenka said.

He stated that during the talks with Dalia Grybauskaitė he plans to discuss the whole range of bilateral relations, including trade and economic relations.

In 2010 the mutual trade turnover has grown by about 30%, in the next year it is realistic to hit $1 billion, Lukashenka believes.

In her turn Dalia Grybauskaitė said that Lithuania is interested in improving and intensifying relations with Belarus.

She reminded that next year Lithuania will be the chair of the OSCE. “IN this framework we want to help Belarus, to be close by with you during the elections, to help become more open and recognized in Europe,” Lithuanian president said.

She underlined that Lithuania is ready “to cooperate and defend interests of Belarus in the European Union as much as Belarus wants it.”
