We’ll find out truth about Aleh Byabenin’s death after change of power

The Prosecutor’s office stops “examination” on the fact of the death of Aleh Byabenin, a Belarusian journalist.

It has been informed by Mikalai Pilyankevich, the first deputy prosecutor of Minks region to Interfax-Zapad agency on Wednesday.

“A decision will be adopted to terminate examination and to dismiss criminal complaint related to Aleh Byabenin’s death,” Pilyankevich said.

He reminded that last week a report of the OSCE experts was published. They visited Belarus and confirmed the main story of the Belarusian prosecutor’s office that Byabenin had allegedly committed suicide.

The Prosecutor’s office extended the term of examination, and it was extended till December 3 the last time.

“After the change of power we are sure to learn the truth about how the Belarusian journalist Aleh Byabenin died. A criminal case shall be certainly opened on the fact of the tragic death of our friends, and it will be investigated by the best Belarusian criminalists. Lukashenka confessed himself that he had been implicated in that case, like in the case of the election fraud. In an interview to Polish mass media he stated that he knows that Byabenin’s death had a criminal nature. Aleh Byabenin, the founder and director of charter97.org website, was found hanging in his summer house near Minsk on September 3. The law-enforcement agencies hurried to report it was a suicide. The death of Aleh Byabenin raises many questions. Forensic scientists cannot define the exact time of his death. Aleh Byabenin didn’t leave a suicide note .Friends and relatives of the journalist claim there were traces of violence on his body. Aleh Byabenin was a key figure in the team of opposition presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov.
