6

The International Day of the Disappeared is celebrated all over the world on August, 30.

On this day in the Hague Belarusian initiative “We remember” will carry out an action of memory of the forcibly disappeared in Belarus Jury Zacharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Dzmitry Zavadski. The action is authorized by the municipal authorities and will take place from 5 p.m. till 6 p.m. of the local time at the central square of Amsterdam Leidseplein. The musicians-residents of Amsterdam, including Avi Adir, will support the action by their performances.

Forcible disappearance — is a severe violation of human rights, which touched upon tens of thousands people and their families. The first to use forcible disappearance were the German Nazis during the World War II. In the 60-th the government of such Latin American countries as Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Haiti, and later tyrants of some African and Asian countries adopted the monstrous practice of forcible disappearances.

In 1999 three famous persons forcibly disappeared in Belarus — the former minister of internal affairs Jury Zacharanka, vice- speaker of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus of XIII convocation Viktar Hanchar, a businessman Anatol Krasouski. All these people were united by one thing: they were open opponents of Lukashenka’s regime. In summer 2000 the former personal operator of Lukashenka Dzmitry Zavadski disappeared without leaving a trace.Till now relatives and friends of Jury Zacharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Dzmitry Zavadski do not know anything about their fates.
