Belarus: Miserable allowance will be reduced

Unemployment benefits in Belarus is one of the lowest allowances in the Post-Soviet Space and makes up 45,6 thousand BR ($15), but this fact did not prevent Alyaksandr Lukashenka from demanding its reducing now, AFN reports.

“We will slowly “shrink” unemployment benefits”, - stated he at the congress of FPB. – “We will support financially citizens who are temporarily out of work. But we will “shrink” this practice of the so-called unemployment benefits”.

He explained his demand by the fact that nowadays there are more vacancies than unemployed in Belarus.

“That is why you are to go, work… there are definite citizens for whom it is advantageous to live on unemployment benefits. We see everything and we will be “shrinking” slowly this practice. We will support those who will find himself in a difficult situation and who is not able to find a job for some time. And the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the government will have to work in this direction in the nearest future”, - Lukashenka said.

According to his words, Belarus has deficit of qualified working people, and the surplus at many enterprises is caused by the fact that everybody wants to be lawyers, economists, managers.

“At present it is not enough just to talk about employment. One should work on the provision of economic-efficient employment… It is necessary, that quality characteristics of the applicants for labour jobs correspond to employer’s demands. Not everybody can be lawyers, economists, managers. One needs personnel of high quality in labour specialties. And it is a big deficit”, - Lukashenka said.
