Stanislau Shushkevich: Psychos wouldn’t do that (Video)

122

On Thursday at RTR channel (Russia) a talk-show of Vladimir Solovyov “Duel” dedicated to Minsk metro blast was held.

Opponents at the show were the first leader of independent Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich and the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

Belarusian TV audience has not watched this programme. An old “Duel” issue was showed instead.

“Belarusian partisan” has offered a selection of Stanislau Shushkevich’s quotes.

Who is to get benefit from blast

“Every time our regime plunges into a difficulty, something happens which makes people turn their attention to different things. Now we are going through an economic recession. If someone would say that there is no crisis, if someone would say that Belarus is alright, Belarus is flourishing, pensions and salaries are paid timely, they are mostly telling bedtime stories. The yoke of rotten economy, bad economy, not liberal economy is being pulled on Belarusians slowly. Let us use figures: Russian ruble and Belarusian ruble have come form one ruble, the Soviet ruble. Today a Russian ruble costs 105-110 Belarusian rubles. Besides, we had a tenfold denomination, which means the Belarusian currency has become 1050 times weaker than the Russian one. It means that Belarusians have suffered from inflation 1050 times as much as Russians. Why do some people believe propaganda saying that Belarus is flourishing and really successful? The regime has got into a new difficult situation now. They have to find a way out of this difficult situation, and the blast has come in handy.

About political assassinations

“We have created a presidential republic which existed for 5 years. And then a barbarian, an illiterate man, who had a strong will power, and intelligent, worthy and decent people (who have disappeared politically and physically) decided: “We will teach him what to do, and he will pierce them by his will power.” And he has send them from hence into the other world.”

About KGB

“The professionalism is gone. We have moronism at the KGB, as people who had been invited there, beat demonstrators, maim teenagers, break their legs, crack open their heads. And the professionals, who have skills to solve crimes, are not needed, as [law-enforcers] are told to beat these people, and psychos to blame would be found for other things.”

About the past election

“Lukashenka has lost the election. Other candidates have won more votes together. We were to have a second round. This banditry was committed in order to distract attention from summing up the results of the election, so demonstrators were beaten, and they were pinned on coup d’etat plans.”

About Russian trace in terrorist attack

“Suiciders, they cannot make such an explosive device, they cannot find professionals, madmen wouldn’t do that. It is absolutely wrong to look for a Russian’s trace there. They are the wicked men who are both ours and yours enemies equally.”

About Moscow and Brussels

“Let’s stop talking about obscurantism from the West, obscurantism could stem from Russia in the same way. I think Belarus is in the place where no tectonic shift to the East or to the West should take place. We must be kind both with Russia and the West, we have no other path.”

About Lukashenka, Mao Zedong and Stalin

“On December 19 Lukashenka said many times that he was in charge of disbanding the demonstration himself, he was the commander of the operation headquarters. So he would not be able to lay the blame on the force structures. The force structures are professionals, they are no fools and they would not bear such a regime for so long. And when they are becoming so strong they can remove him – he changes them for others. It is a method of Mao Zedong and Stalin”.

On economic sanctions

“I was in Brussels on April 11. I am a supporter of economic sanctions on the part of the West. The economic sanctions hit [in the pocket of] Lukashenka’s regime and do not hit the working population.”
