Zelenskyy Made An Unexpected Visit To Berlin

The Ukrainian president will meet with Merz and the German president.

On Tuesday, November 3, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Berlin for a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and Bundestag President Julia Klöckner. The Ukrainian head of state announced this on social media.

“The most important thing is our diplomatic coordination: important meetings lie ahead, as well as strengthening air defense and supporting our energy sector. This is precisely what will be the priority of today’s talks,” Zelenskyy stated.

According to him, both sides are interested “in security, stability, and the protection of a rules-based international order” and must work together to ensure these principles are translated into concrete decisions and actions.

On October 31, Merz announced a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Berlin in mid-November to coordinate international aid to Ukraine. The German government’s official website emphasized that support for Ukraine and the strengthening of its air defense system were among the main topics during all three stops on Merz’s Asian tour.
