The first polling places opened in the northeastern state of Vermont.

In the United States the first polling places have opened for the midterm congressional elections, in which millions of Americans will elect the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate.

This was reported by "European Truth".

The first polling stations opened in the northeastern state of Vermont at 5 a.m. Eastern Time (1:00 p.m. Minsk time).

Voting will then begin in Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia, where all polling stations open at 6:00 a.m. The last polling places open in Alaska and Washington at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time, and in Hawaii at 12:00 p.m.

The first polling places close at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time (2:00 a.m. Minsk time). The first results are expected at that time.

So far, more than 57 million Americans have already voted early or by mail.

In this election, 435 members of the House of Representatives, 35 members of the U.S. Senate, and 39 governors will be elected.

Preliminary projections indicate that the Democratic Party will win a majority in both chambers of the U.S. Congress.
