The President of Ukraine commented on the "diesel deal" between the U.S. and Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained, what his relationship is like with U.S. President Donald Trump. He made these remarks in an interview with PBS News Hour.
Zelenskyy was asked to describe his relationship with Trump, given that the U.S. president had previously spoken of the need to re-elect the Ukrainian leader, eased sanctions against Russia, and agreed to purchase Russian fuel. Zelenskyy replied with one word: “emotional.”
According to him, one must be pragmatic in this war. “Who is the enemy? Who started this war? Putin. I can’t find the right words to describe him. I’m not sure that would be helpful,” he said.
Separately, Zelenskyy responded to Trump’s fuel agreement. “If money, business, and pragmatism are truly important to you, then don’t say that this will affect prices in the United States. No, that’s not true. It doesn’t work that way. So, if we’re talking about pragmatic matters, we must support Ukraine because it needs to be strong. Otherwise, Putin will advance further into Europe and into various parts of NATO countries,” he said.
The President of Ukraine believes that in such a situation, America will have to make difficult decisions. “This is very dangerous. That’s why it’s better to strengthen Ukraine, because we’re truly defending Europe, not just ourselves. It’s better to put more pressure on Putin, not on me. Not on me. I’m not the type to act aggressively. That’s not me,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
That is precisely why, according to him, his relationship with Trump is emotional in nature.
