Church members prepare to defend their property

On May 11 in Mahilyou representatives of housing and municipal services plan to demolish the fencing wall in front of the house of worship of the Christians of Evangelical Faith congregation.

According to the authorities, the fencing wall hampers construction of a multistoried building, and the administration of Kastrychnitski district ordered to bulldoze it, Radio Svaboda informs.

It will be the second attempt to destroy the fence forcibly. The first one took place a half a year ago. The believers managed to defend the fence then. Today at 9 a.m. community services’ construction machinery was to appear near the house in Myashchanskiye polosy Street, 21 again. In the letter from the administration of the district the owners were offered to destroy the fence themselves, otherwise it would be done by community services’ workers. The owner of the house, Vitaky Radchanka, said:

“We have been occupying this territory for 20 years. I have discussed that with lawyers, with attprneys. I have the technical passport. Everything is legal on my part. And they want to build a house at a distance of one metre from my porch.”

Last time the workers of the municipal services arrived to destroy the solid brick fencing wall accompanied by representatives of the district administration and police. According to officials, the owners of the cottage had grabbed extra 20 ares of lands, and they do not have documents for that land.
