Executioners of political prisoners to face tribunal

A problem of torture in Belarusian prisons will be discussed at the scheduled meeting of “For Release” public coordination group.

“We begin a public discussion of the problem of torture in today’s Belarus. We launch the Public Tribunal campaign. All interested people are welcome to join us and condemn cruel treatment of people in penitentiaries, prisons and police departments,” the BCD press service cites the group’s statement. “Let’s say no to torture in Belarus!”

The meeting of “For Release” group is expected to be held in BPF party headquarters at the address 3-39 Chernyshevsky Str at 6 pm on February 2.

The UN Committee against Torture has reproached the Belarusian authorities and demanded to improve the situation in prisons and police departments. The independent Belarusian media periodically publish information about using violent methods during investigation and about evidence of people who faced torture in prisons.
