Banned national flags were hung out in Minsk on occasion of an anniversary of the referendum on national symbols.
Activists of European Belarus civil campaign hung out white-red-white flags on buildings in Minsk's residential districts and near the office of the Belarusian state television, the press service of the campaign reports. Participants of the action say their aim was to remind Belarusians about the real national symbols and support political prisoner Syarhei Kavalenka, who continues hunger strike in a detention facility in Vitebsk.
We remind today is the 17th anniversary of the referendum to change the state symbols. As a result of the 1995 referendum, “Pahonya” (Chase) court of arms and white-red-white flag were declared non-state.
