KGB: The terrorist tried to blow up police station

KGB claims prevention of terrorist attacks in Homel Region.

The State Security Committee of Belarus reported on the detention of a terrorist in Homel voblast on May 24. According to the KGB, the man tried to blow up a police station in one of the regional centers. He had some tanks with Molotov cocktails with him as well as an improvised explosive device with about 5 kg of TNT of capacity.

According to the KGB center of information and public relations, the terrorist had a mask with an inscription in Arabic. He "tried to commit terrorist acts against members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Unit at the place of their deployment," BelaPAN.

"These initial findings indicate the citizen’s contacts with the organized criminal group for sending the citizens of Afghanistan in a European country. The attention is drawn to the fact of detention of one of the leaders of an organized criminal group by special forces of this region in May 2012," noted the Committee of State Security.

As a result, a criminal case was initiated with regard to the detained under article "attempting to commit an act of terrorism." The investigation is carried out by the KGB and the Investigative Committee of Belarus.

According to some unconfirmed information, the terrorist was detained in Zhlobin.
