Jury Hubarevich: First step must be made by regime

The deputy chairman of the Movement for Freedom stated that the possibility of a dialogue between Minsk and Brussels will emerge after the release of the political prisoners.
This is how Jury Hubarevich commented on the call of the movement’s leader Aliaksandr Milinkievich on the European Union to abandon the sanctions against Lukashenka.
“If we speak about the possibility to start a dialogue, then a signal must be sent to official Minsk, that the situation between it and the European Union can change in the positive direction. One may even outline the benefits that official Minsk would get from this cooperation, but yet the first step must be made by the regime, and this step is the release of the political prisoners”.
Milinkevich’s deputy highlighted that the statement of the head of the Movement for Freedom does not mean that the politician is calling on the European Union to start a dialogue with official Minsk without waiting for the release of the political prisoners, Euroradio reports.
We would remind that yesterday a conference was held in Brussels under the name 'The Dialogue on Modernization with Belarusian Society - A functioning new instrument?'. At the conference the chairman of the Movement for Freedom Aliaksandr Milinkievich spoke in favor of the dialogue of the European Union with the regime, since, according to him, this “would distract Belarus from Russia”. The politician stated that the liberalization in 2009-2010 gave a result and the provocation in the square on 19 December 2010 happened “not without the involvement of Russian special services”. Milinkievich also called on the European Union to abandon the sanctions.
