Uladzimir Makei met with Bashar al-Assad

On February 8-9 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus visited Syria.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told charter97.org about it.

"During his visit Uladzimir Makei met with President Bashar al-Assad, Prime Minister Wael Al-Halqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid Muallem, the Grand Mufti of Syria Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, representatives of the Syrian business community.

They discussed the state and prospects of bilateral relations in the political, trade, economic, cooperative, scientific and technical, humanitarian spheres, the issues of mutual support in the international arena, including the situation in Syria and the region. The sides exchanged views on current issues on the international agenda".

Aliaksandr Lukashenka sent a message to Syrian dictator.

In the course of negotiations it was expressed the support of Syrian people in their fight against a foreign intervention and terrorism. Commitment to the further development of comprehensive Belarusian-Syrian cooperation, the intention of the Republic of Belarus to promote a post-conflict revival of Syrian economy are noted," the statement says".

Bashar al-Assad rules Syria since 2000. The last time he was in 2014, in conditions of civil war and those elections were not recognized by the international organizations and Western countries. He is accused of widespread repressions and extirpation of political opposition in the country, harassment of the Kurdish minority, as well as the use of chemical weapons against the civilian population. International organizations reported on the financing of Bashar Al-Assad of terrorist organizations, Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
