The political prisoner answered to Lukashenka’s accusations.
The words of the politician from his letter from prison are quoted on a Facebook page created by Statkevich’s associates.
“There is a certain public figure who is regularly disseminating misleading information about a desire “to become a hero” expressed by me.”
I have never said such stupid things, and it is witnessed by dozens of informants, who have always been beside me all these years. Maybe this public figure is seeing things, as people say here, and he confuses them with the reality? He’d better consult a specialist,” the message reads.
We remind that in early April, answering a question of Bloomberg journalist whether it had been necessary for the five candidates for presidency in 2010 to be imprisoned, and one of them to stay there up to this moment, Lukashenka said: “It is absolutely unnecessary. It is harmful for me in the first place. But they went [to prison] not because they were candidates for presidency. Do you agree they were no rivals for me, weren’t they?.. But they had violated the law, they violated the law gravely. It was connected to destabilizing the situation in the country.”
“Four of them didn’t want to stay in prison. They are not in prison. The one who is there today, he wants to be a prisoner, and he believes that “in case I am a prisoner, it will make me a hero in Belarus.” It is not forbidden to think, and if you want it this way, let it be so,” the dictator added.
