US Congressmen Awarded BPR Medals

Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora awarded the medals.
Congressmen Christopher Smith and John Shimkus, who for many years raised the Belarusian issue in the United States and supported the Belarusian democratic organizations, were awarded with the BPR medals in the US Congress on May 1, Radio Svaboda reports.
The awards were presented by the head of the Washington department of BASE, Slava Bortnik and representatives of the Belarusian diaspora.
As previously reported Ivonka Survilla, the BPR Rada Chairperson, awarded a medal to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian People's Republic to a group of people from Belarus and abroad.

Charter97.org Editor-In-Chief Natalia Radzina was one of the first persons to be awarded with the BPR medal.
The BPR medal was created on the centenary of the Belarusian People's Republic “for lifetime achievements in work for accomplishing the ideals of the Act of March 25, 1918, including research and popularization of the Belarusian language, gaining and strengthening the state independence of Belarus, the struggle for freedom and democracy in Belarus”.
The awards will be granted during 2019.
