Israeli Troops Will Remain In Gaza Until Hamas Disarms

The terms of the U.S. peace plan at the end of the war stipulate this.

Israeli troops will remain in the Gaza Strip until Hamas militants lay down their weapons, which is under the terms of a U.S. peace plan to end the war.

This was reported by Sky News citing a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu made the statement about the troops after the ceasefire went into effect, which began at noon local time.

The official confirmed that Israeli troops will remain in Gaza to keep up pressure on Hamas until the group disarms.

What stage is the Gaza peace plan

The Israeli army is now redeploying to the initial withdrawal line defined in the ceasefire agreement.

The publication quoted Netanyahu as saying that Israel in Gaza is "squeezing Hamas from all sides in preparation for the next stages of the plan." The Israeli prime minister is referring to the second phase of the U.S. peace plan presented recently by American leader Donald Trump.

This phase calls for Hamas to disarm and withdraw from control of the Gaza Strip, which is to be demilitarized.

"If it can be achieved peacefully - good. If not, it will be achieved by force," Netanyahu said.

At the same time, Hamas must return all Israeli hostages within 72 hours.

The Israeli prime minister noted that all hostages will be returned within the next few days.

Reminder, the ceasefire agreement approved by Israel and Hamas went into effect on October 10.

Israeli Defense Forces began deploying along updated deployment lines as of 12:00 p.m., preparing for the ceasefire agreement and the return of hostages.

Agreement to End the War in Gaza

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas. It contains 20 points and calls for the creation of an international "peace council."

Israel has approved the first phase of an agreement that would lead to a cease-fire and the release of hostages.

According to the agreement, Israel would partially withdraw its troops, Hamas would then have 72 hours to release all Israeli hostages, and Netanyahu would release hundreds of Palestinian holdouts.
