Lukashenko: Belarus Is As Clear As Day To The Ukrainian Military

The dictator fears Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes on industrial and logistics facilities.

Alexander Lukashenko in interview with Al Arabiya TV, stated that Belarus is as clear as day to the Ukrainian military, and also apologized to Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his harsh remarks directed at him.

During the interview, Lukashenko was asked to comment on statements by Ukrainian authorities and the military regarding a possible threat of a new offensive by Russian troops from Belarusian territory.

The dictator said that he had discussed this issue with Vladimir Putin and that the Russian authorities were allegedly also not interested in Belarus’s direct involvement in the war.

“We have said many times that it is absolutely unacceptable for the war between Ukraine and Russia to spill over into Belarusian territory,” he stated.

“We understand that Belarus’s entry into the war or conflict in any capacity is unacceptable. It would do more harm than good,” Lukashenko quoted Putin as allegedly saying.

At the same time, he acknowledged that Belarus is “very vulnerable militarily if Ukraine starts attacking Belarus the same way it attacks Russia”:

“Because Belarus is as clear as day to the Ukrainian military. We fully understand that our key infrastructure—industrial and logistical—will come under attack. As they stated, they have already identified 500 such targets on Belarusian territory,” Lukashenko said.

At the same time, Lukashenko assured that “Ukraine has absolutely nothing to fear from Belarus”:

“Absolutely nothing. Absolutely. And they know this, and the military knows this. The people, the people of Ukraine, know this. This issue is being stoked due to some political ambitions,” he said.

The dictator also suddenly apologized for the harsh remarks he had made against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. And immediately added a new batch of dismissive remarks:

“Maybe I went a bit too far somewhere, but it was a response to his off-the-cuff remarks: ‘Yeah, we have 500 targets, yeah, we know where Lukashenko is. We’ll strike with missiles and drones tomorrow.” I stayed silent. Everyone was even surprised that I stayed silent. I understood: the man is under such pressure—a young man, inexperienced, not a military man. Maybe something didn’t click in his head. I remained silent. But when they started threatening me, I was forced to respond.

If Vladimir Alexandrovich took offense, I apologize to him for those words. Maybe I shouldn’t have said them, considering that he is, after all, at war. Maybe I shouldn’t have spoken so harshly about it,” said Lukashenko.

As a reminder, in late May, Lukashenko had already commented on statements by Robert Brovdy, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, that the Ukrainian military had identified about 500 targets on Belarusian territory. At that time, he claimed that Minsk also had “one very serious target” in Ukraine, and stated that the Belarusian military would not participate in combat operations on Ukrainian territory.
