Beijing fears that Russia may be withholding information about the plague.

China is tightening health inspections at its border with Russia following reports of a possible case of pneumonic plague in Siberia. Emergency meetings are already being held in border regions, and additional epidemic control measures are being prepared.

This is reported in an article by The Telegraph.

In the city of Manzhouli, authorities emphasized the need to strengthen epidemiological surveillance in cooperation with port and customs services. This involves monitoring people, cargo, and other cross-border movements.

In Hulunbuir, approximately 200 km from Manzhouli, a separate warning was issued for people who have recently returned from Russia. They are advised to closely monitor themselves for any possible symptoms.

At the same time, Chinese authorities acknowledge that the case in Russia has not yet been definitively confirmed. However, due to the nature of the facility where the death occurred, as well as natural foci of plague in the region, local authorities are already discussing measures to mitigate risks.

It should be noted that in Irkutsk, a 28-year-old employee of the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute died. Russian authorities officially stated that the cause of death was pneumonia of unknown origin, and that the plague pathogen was allegedly not detected in the deceased
The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that it does not have a complete overview of the situation regarding a possible plague outbreak in Russia.
