The fire broke out after reports of a rocket attack.
Late in the evening on October 14, explosions rocked the Russian town of Borisoglebsk in the Voronezh Region, followed by a massive fire. A local military airfield was hit.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing OSINT sources.
According to locals, the explosions occurred amid a missile alert. A major fire is raging at the scene; the extent of the damage is being assessed.
The airfield is home to the 783rd Aviation Training Center and units of the 105th Mixed Aviation Division. The division flies Su-34s, Su-35s, and Su-30SMs, which the Russians use to strike Ukraine, in particular with guided bombs.
This past summer, there were no combat aircraft permanently stationed at the airfield. The airfield served as a staging area: here, aircraft were refueled and loaded with munitions before flying to Ukraine.
Strikes against Russian rear areas have continued for several nights in a row. On the night of October 14, dozens of explosions rocked Balakovo in the Saratov Region of the Russian Federation, followed by a fire. Sberbank’s megadata center, one of the largest in Russia, was hit.
