According to the dictator, they are “TikToking.”

Lukashenko once again spoke out about young people and suggested putting children—who, in his words, “spend their time on TikTok”—to work. This was reported by the propaganda outlet BelTA.

The dictator recommended “trying to involve children in work.” At the same time, he criticized teenagers for their obsession with their phones

According to him, apples don’t grow on the internet, meat isn’t produced there, and milk isn’t milked there.

Talk of “work within their capabilities” for children sounds particularly cynical given that international standards strictly limit child labor. Belarus has ratified the International Labor Organization’s conventions on the minimum age for admission to employment and on the prohibition of the worst forms of child labor, and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child protects children from economic exploitation and work that interferes with their education and development.

The Belarusian Labor Code also sets a minimum age for entering into an employment contract and strictly regulates working conditions for minors.
