A court has ordered the U.S. State Department to resume the Green Card lottery no later than October 18. This was reported by Charter97.org, citing a ruling by federal judge Jeansuk Ota.
“The court orders the defendant Marco Rubio, in his official capacity as U.S. Secretary of State, and the State Department <...> no later than midnight… October 15 <...> to publicly announce on its website the registration period for the 2027 fiscal year immigrant visa lottery,” the document states.
The judge also ordered that registration for the lottery be opened no later than October 18. It must remain open for at least 30 days, according to the ruling.
In March, the State Department announced that to participate in the U.S. Green Card Lottery, applicants must now upload a copy of their passport when submitting their application. The changes were adopted to enhance security and prevent fraud. The rule took effect on April 10 and applies to the lottery whose winners will be eligible to receive a green card next year.
