Gerasimova was accused of lying.
Russian Z-correspondents have once again accused the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, who the day before reported to President Vladimir Putin that the city of Dobropillya and a number of other settlements in the Donetsk region had been fully captured. According to the military commander, the city—which serves as one of the key logistical hubs for the Ukrainian defense— has been “liberated” by troops of the “Center” group, and “search operations are underway there to identify and eliminate individual Ukrainian servicemen hiding in the basements of buildings.” Putin called this a “significant development” that paves the way to the borders of the “DPR,” writes The Moscow Times.
“Gerasimov reported on the liberation of Dobropillya, Alekseevo-Druzhkivka, and Sergeevka, as well as the completion of the destruction of a 2,000-strong Ukrainian Armed Forces unit surrounded in the Kharkiv region <…> “There’s simply no point in analyzing all this,” wrote “Voenny Osvedomitiel.” Z-Channel also posted an excerpt from a video by the Ministry of Defense, which was supposed to prove Russian control over the city, and claimed that it was created using a neural network, as evidenced by the unrealistic way the soldier is holding the Russian flag. “Is it just us, or has the ‘Center’ Main Directorate also mastered AI-generated flag-waving videos, following the example of their colleagues from the ‘West’ Main Directorate?” the author asks. “They’ve sold ‘Pype’ [Putin] yet another Svyatogorsk and Kupyansk. It’s a disgrace!” adds Z-blogger Alex Parker Returns.

He was referring to the fact that the military had previously reported to Putin about the capture of the two cities mentioned, but in the end, this was not confirmed by either the Z-authors themselves or the Ukrainian side. The “military informant” also pointed to a post by the “Dom Osinterov” channel, which claims that the southern and a significant part of central Dobropillya are under Russian control. However, this data does not indicate “a sustained presence [of the Russian Armed Forces] in the remaining half of the liberated city,” writes the Z-channel.
Meanwhile, data from the Ukrainian OSINT project Deep State does not even confirm the existence of a “gray” zone in Dobropillya. Judging by the map, the city is under the full control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The claim that Dobropillya has been captured is also refuted by Z-blogger Anatoly Radov. “I have no comment. But on the ground, everything’s a mess as usual,” he commented on Gerasimov’s remarks.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also refuted the Russian military’s claims. “Gerasimov’s statements about the capture of Dobropillya are untrue. The city remains under Ukrainian control,” said Ukrainian General Staff spokesperson Andriy Kovalev.
