Maria Vorontsova opened a longevity laboratory.
The Skolkovo School of Management in Moscow has launched a research lab to study the impact of increased life expectancy on public policy, the economy, and the labor market, according to "Vedomosti". At a forum related to this event, Maria Vorontsova—the daughter of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and director of the Medical Research and Educational Institute at Moscow State University—spoke. She stated that longevity should be divided into two stages. In the first stage, a person needs to live out “the potential inherent in nature, which is 85–90 years.” To achieve this, Vorontsova believes it is necessary to develop the habit of taking care of one’s health from childhood, eating a balanced diet, and undergoing regular medical checkups.
The second stage, she said, represents an attempt to “cheat God or nature” and go beyond the limits of human natural potential. Vorontsova acknowledged that scientific progress in this area has so far been modest. From her perspective, one of the obstacles to longevity is that aging is not considered a disease. As a result, developing drugs to combat it is complicated, since this process requires a clear diagnosis and clinical trials. At the same time, Vorontsova expressed confidence that “the universal human fear of death” will push the healthcare system to address the problem of aging within the next 10–20 years.
It should be noted that in 2025, at Putin’s request, the national project “Long and Active Life” was launched. A total of more than 2 trillion rubles is planned to be spent on this project and the “New Technologies for Preserving Health” initiative. The president has set the goal of increasing life expectancy in Russia to 78 years by 2030 and to 81 years by 2036. Currently, it stands at 74.2 years.
Putin himself is 74 years old. Most of the country’s top officials are roughly the same age, and the average life expectancy for men in Russia is 68 years.
According to media reports, Putin has long been interested in the topic of rejuvenation. In September 2025, during a visit to Beijing, he discussed with Chinese leader Xi Jinping the possibility of achieving immortality through modern technology and organ transplants. At that time, Xi assured Putin that “there is already a chance to live to be 150 years old in this century”.
