It will begin operations in 2027.
Russia and Belarus have approved the rules for the Union State’s unified electricity market. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Energy on its Telegram channel.
“The energy ministries of Russia and Belarus have signed an agreement regulating the operation of the ‘Union State’s’ unified electricity market,” the statement said.
The Russian Ministry of Energy noted that the unified market will begin operations in 2027.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the 30th Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum. On the Russian side, the document was signed by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Evgeny Grabchak.
“All bureaucratic procedures have been completed. The operators have been designated, and the procedures have been established. We’ll start next year,” said Grabchak.
Prior to this, Alexander Lukashenko proposed reviving the Soviet model of cooperation, under which Minsk was responsible for supplying a number of key Russian regions. According to him, the essence of this responsibility was to produce and supply to St. Petersburg—and especially Kaliningrad—everything that was in short supply there.
