Stanislav Galkovsky—former deputy editor-in-chief of *Gomelskie Vedomosti* and a host on state television—has died. His family and friends announced his death on his Facebook page. He was reportedly 45 years old. The cause of death was not specified in the post, according to “Shtodzen”.
In recent months, the propagandist had been posting depressive messages on social media, complaining that “he was fed up with everything.”
Galkovsky worked in state media for many years, wrote for “Sovetskaya Belorussiya,” and, since late 2021, served as deputy editor-in-chief of “Gomelskie Vedomosti.” He hosted the program “Opinions” on the “Belarus 4. Gomel” TV channel.
After 2020, he actively supported the official agenda: he criticized political émigrés, expressed nostalgia for the USSR, and downplayed the significance of Stalinist repressions. In one of his pieces, he called the repressions of the 1930s in Gomel “a drop in the ocean” compared to Nazi crimes.
However, at the end of 2022, his career in Gomel’s state media came to an end. According to reports at the time, Galkovsky was laid off from the regional television station. As “Shtodzen” had previously reported, he left “Gomelskie Vedomosti” of his own accord. The position of deputy editor-in-chief was taken by the former head of the public relations department of the regional police, Lieutenant Colonel Vitaly Pristromov.
In September 2026, “Shtodzen” reported that Galkovsky had become a contributor to the “Belarusian Forest Newspaper”—an industry publication of the Ministry of Forestry. Instead of political columns, he published articles about forests and animals, including one about the friendship between a wild deer and a domestic horse near Zhlobin.
