Trump Hinted At A Possible Republican Defeat
Donald Trump

The U.S. President addressed the nation.

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a speech on November 2, on the eve of the midterm congressional elections. Earlier, the White House had reported that this would be Trump’s “final message” before the vote.

The speech lasted about 55 minutes. The president called the upcoming election “the most important in the lives” of Americans, according to NBC News. He also noted that, historically, the president’s party does not win midterm elections. The media believes that Trump was likely laying the groundwork for a possible Republican defeat.

“The Democratic Party has fielded the most extremist and most dangerous slate of candidates in American history. These are the most dangerous candidates ever nominated,” the president said.

According to projections, the Democrats could win a majority in both chambers of Congress, writes The Economist. The publication expects the Democrats to hold 235 seats in the House of Representatives, while the Republicans will hold 200. In the Senate, the margin is minimal: 51 seats for the Democrats and 49 for the Republicans.

Trump also spoke about economic achievements, stating that “household incomes have reached an all-time high” and “the poverty rate is at a record low.”

However, he devoted a significant portion of his speech to the renovation of the pool at the Lincoln Memorial, as well as other construction projects in Washington, D.C., which he personally commissioned.
