In the Samara Region, a fire has been burning for a second day at the "Samara" oil storage facility, which was attacked by drones—one of Europe’s largest fuel storage complexes, where four major oil pipelines intersect. This is reported by Astra, citing footage from eyewitnesses. Judging by the video published by the outlet and Ukrainian monitoring channels, a huge cloud of smoke is rising above the damaged storage facilities, located 30 kilometers from Samara. The facility, which has 71 storage tanks with a total capacity of more than 1.6 million cubic meters of oil, was struck by a UAV on the morning of November 2. Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev reported only that the “attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces had been repelled” and that air defense systems were operational.

The “Samara” Oil Product Distribution Station, owned by Transneft, is the largest oil transportation and distribution hub in the Russian Federation, used for receiving, storing, and further transporting oil. The facility, where the “Almetyevsk–Kuibyshev,” “Kaltasinsky–Kuibyshev,” “Nizhnevartovsk–Kurgan–Kuibyshev,” and “Guryev–Kuibyshev,” covers more than 216 hectares. Following the attack and the fire—which was visible even from space—the pumping of Kazakhstani crude oil destined for export via the Atyrau–Samara pipeline was temporarily halted, according to the republic’s authorities. In late October, the Ukrainian Armed Forces resumed strikes against the Russian oil industry, hitting at least four oil refineries in several regions.

On October 30, Rosneft’s Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery came under attack, on October 31—the Bashneft refinery in Ufa, and on November 1—the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery (NORS) in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, and the day before, the Novo-Yaroslavl Oil Refinery (“Slavneft-YANOS”)—one of the five largest oil refineries in Russia—caught fire following an attack. Ukraine suspended its airstrikes on oil refineries for nearly two weeks following a demand from U.S. President Donald Trump not to target Russian diesel fuel production.
