A woman from Minsk was shocked by the prices at a store in the capital.
A resident of the capital posted photos of price tags at the “Green” hypermarket. The price of regular chicken eggs—and not even the largest ones—ranged from 4 rubles 79 kopecks to 6 rubles 39 kopecks.
“Belarusians, does anyone know what’s going on with the eggs?” she asked.
Minsk residents have noticed that prices for chicken products and eggs have risen in recent weeks. The website Charter97.org features some comments:
— You’re just noticing this now? Eggs and chicken breast disappeared for a week at first, then reappeared, but the prices skyrocketed.
— It’s the same with eggs as with other foods. They raised pensions by half a kopeck; they have to make up for it.
— Have you seen chicken breast for 18 rubles?
— It’s the same story as with prices for chicken and chicken parts. Everything has gone up by 50 percent.
— Fabergé?
— Remember what happened with potatoes, whose prices skyrocketed? Was there a reason for that? I think it might turn out to be a similar story with eggs.
— It’s just that your salary isn’t going up, but the price of eggs has gone up. It’s that simple.
— Wow! Looks like the golden hen Ryaba is laying eggs.
